Face Up To It: Revlon Age Defying Foundation

I don't know about you, but my most important makeup items are my face products. I have pretty bad skin with a lot of acne scarring and discoloration so it's important to me that I cover it up.  My skin is also really oily, so I go through about a powder a month. Today, though, we're going to talk about Revlon's Age Defying liquid foundation.

Color is 20 Soft Beige

I was trying to get a picture where you can see the shimmer
in this foundation, and this was the best I could get.

I have to admit, this foundation is very different from all the ones that I have used in the past. First of all, let's talk about the packaging. It has a pump that I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of, but you can sort of see it through the cap in the picture. This pump is very easy to control, right up until the very end where you have to open up the foundation to get the last little bit out of. I haven't always heard the best things about pumps, so this was a nice surprise. And it's easy to unscrew and dip into when it's time to finish it up.

I can't vouch for it's age defying qualities, because I'm young, but I didn't notice it having any particular benefit for my skin or scarring.  I can see it being good for people with drier skin, though, because of the hydrating qualities I noticed. It also has SPF 20!
The biggest problem I can see people having with this foundation is it's consistency. This is the thickest foundation I have ever touched. Now, I personally don't mind being able to feel my foundation on my face, but I know that's a big issue for other people. I suppose that it must have some hydrating factor in it, since it's for older skin, so that must be why.  Basically, don't buy this foundation if you hate really thick ones. However, because of this, it has pretty fantastic coverage.  I still have to use concealer, but not nearly as much with other foundations.

Let's talk about the finish now.  This is not the shiniest foundation I've ever used by any means, but it definitely needs to be set. That being said, this obviously takes an extraordinary amount of powder to set.  I was not a big fan of that. If you don't use a lot of powder, this foundation is definitely very tacky and feels even heavier. As I tried to show in the picture of the foundation on the tissue, this foundation has an odd shimmer to it. When I first noticed it, I thought that it was my blush, but then I remembered that my blush is matte.  So, clearly it's not noticeable unless you are looking pretty closely, but it's definitely there.

I like this foundation. It retails for about $12 I believe, but it definitely goes on sales.  I think you'll like this foundation if you're just looking for something with a ton of coverage and you perhaps have a little bit drier skin. If you hate being able to feel foundation thickly on your face, stay away.

Do you like foundations with pumps? I found myself actually being swayed to say yes!

Face Up to It: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

So, I ran out of my L'Oreal Magicsmooth Souffle Foundation, and so I had to get a new liquid foundation. I saw that the Maybelline Fit Me wasn't too expensive, so I decided to give it a go.  I believe that it was around $7.

I don't like foundation bottles like this, because I always pour too much out, and then have to pour some back in, which is kind of gross.  The color is 220, Natural Beige.

Both of these pictures are pretty color accurate. It's pretty much a light tan. Unfortunately, it has a little bit of a greenish undertone... So I don't think that this foundation is anyone's natural color. On the otherhand, I guess that the green tone helps with red color correcting.  Anyway, the right swatch is thicker than you would wear it on the skin, but it shows the finish of the foundation really well. Which, by the way, sucks.

I hate the finish of this foundation.  It looks just as shiny as it looks in that picture.  This foundation gives the most oily looking finish that I've ever seen. Now, I always wear powder to set my foundation, but I have to use so much to set it and make it look matte that my face looks incredibly cakey.  This foundation is so shiny that even people with dry skin, who like dewy finish's would not like it.  I honestly don't know anyone who would like the natural finish of this foundation.

This foundation has pretty good coverage, but it's a little bit streaky when you apply it.  You have to take care to blend it out, and this also makes it so that it's not very buildable.  I feel like maybe it would apply better with a brush, but I just don't feel like I could ever get it too look good on its own.

Regardless of the oily finish, I didn't find that this foundation moved around any more than any others that I used, whether I used a primer or not. The oilyness was just in how it looked, not really how it performed.

Long story short, I don't like this foundation at all. The color is kind of weird, the finish is terrible, and the packaging is not ideal.  It's not a bad price, and it's not so bad that I won't use it up, but I don't recommend it to anyone, especially because this isn't the first bad review that I've seen.

What finish do you like for your foundation?

Face Up to It: L'Oreal Magicsmooth Souffle Foundation

So, it's time for another foundation review! It's been a while since my last one. This is because I like to use up specific products before I buy new ones. These being concealers, mascaras, powders, and foundations. In otherwords, the things that aren't fun... Or as much. :)

Anyway, this time, it's the L'Oreal Magicsmooth Souffle Foundation.  One of the most expensive drugstore foundations, I think retailing for as much as $16. I snagged this one for $10, though, and I would have never bought it full price, but I'm glad that I found it on sale!

I will say that this product has nice packaging. Very appealing and sturdy. I find it easy to store as well. You could argue, though, that it's a little bulky.

Color is 524 Buff Beige

I've been using this foundation for two months straight, experimenting with different brushes, primers, and powders.  So, I think that I'm pretty well versed in how to work with this foundation.  First, yes, it does have a mousse-like texture.  Since it has a naturally airfilled formula, you have to use a lot of product to cover your whole face, (even more when you use a brush) especially since it's thicker, so it doesn't spread thinly with little product.  And because of it's packaging, you can see exactly how much you're using. Which is a lot!

It has essentially a cream to powder formula, in that it dries rather quickly and my fingers don't cling to my face at all once it sets; it feels dry. I set it with a powder anyway, just because I don't have dry skin at all, and I would classify my skin as combination.  This also has a matte finish, which I love, because I like my face to be very matte, save for my highlight color.  I've never had an issue with  lasting power on it, and haven't really noticed differences with I use different primers.  It has nice coverage, I would say medium to full coverage, but it doesn't cover all of my very noticeable (at least to me) hyperpigmentation.  Then again, neither does my expensive full coverage concealer...

As for application, I have read reviews in which people say that they could only get this foundation to work when they used a brush, but I didn't find that necessary. I always apply my foundation with my fingers, and I found this to blend very nicely like that, blurring my pores and all that nonsense.  Also, it wastes less product.  I scoop a bit of it out, and blend it directly on my face.  It does ball up a little bit initially, but that goes away with a little blending.  Application isn't any different for me than with any other foundation, even compared to a normal liquid.

Very important and very irritating note. My only real gripe about this product except for the price. The thick glass packaging obscures the color of the product to make it look much lighter than it actually is inside. I bought this foundation because I was in the market for a new, lighter foundation. I looked at the packaging and thought, "This looks good, if not one or two shades too light, but I'll just use a darker powder with it then." I was wrong. I got it home, and it was one or two shades too dark. I've been using it nonetheless, but that's a huge packaging flaw.

Overall, this is a great foundation if you can get it at a discount, but be sure to buy a color that is a few shades too light for you, or buy from someplace like CVS where you can return it if it's not the right color. I love the finish of the product and the coverage is about as good as it gets, and it looks great on me. If you want a before and after picture of my face, just request it!

Would you buy a drugstore foundation for $16?
